Clark Gable Claudette Colbert Black And White Photograph Colorized
Here is a photo I enjoyed colorizing.  Clark gable and Claudette Colbert in the 1934 film “It Happened One Night“. The film was the first to win all five of the Academy Awards it was nominated for. The plot was based on the August 1933 short story Night Bus by Samuel Hopkins Adams. It was one of the last romantic comedies created before the MPAA began enforcing the 1930 production code. The film was more or less a screwball comedy which was popular at that time, but featured a bare chested Clark Gable which the MPAA thought was a bit racy.

Colorizing this image was a bit time consuming, but only because I wanted to pay attention to the details. The most difficult was making the foliage in the back appear real. Often I see other peoples colorizations that use only one color throughout, or multiple shades of the same color. I like to give the trees a little yellow red and brown to give them a bit more of a lifelike feel.

Claudette Colbert ( I wonder if she is related to Stephen?) seemed like she would be a blonde for some reason, but turns out she was a dark haired red head. I used three layers for the hair; auburn and a light red and another layer of auburn but in a low vivid light to bring out the sheen in her hair.
I will be posting part one  of my video tutorials this week and part two should be up after this weekend. I will also be having some guest authors on the site in the next few weeks to showcase their work and provide some tips.
The original version of the photo is below as well as my colorized version, feel free to take a shot at it yourself and submit in the comment section below.
