Colorization of 1950’s models sunbathing in latest fashions.

Black and white photo of models sunbathing colorized

This black and white photo was taken by Nina Leen in 1950 and was featured in a summer issue of LIFE magazine. The article and photos showed the top fashion trends for bathing suits in the 1950’s , A far cry from what we currently see 60 years later.

The colorization of the photo wasn’t terribly complicated, but did become a bit tricky when doing the green plaid bathing suit of the women second from the left. I could have just given it a solid color and it would have looked fine, but I realized thats lazy and decided to throw some yellow and red into it. I am pleased I did because the end result looks far better than a solid color.

Colorizing the sand was a bit tricky, mostly because it took up every space that wasn’t the women. That means that I have to get the sand in every nook and cranny, just like when you go to the beach in real life.

Below is the original full size black and white photo along with my full size colorization. Feel free to share this colorization on your social network of choice or leave a comment or question in the comment section below.
