Colorization of Rita Hayworth Playing Ping Pong

Rita Hayworth Ping Pong Colorized Comparison

I’ve been wanting to colorize this photo of Rita Hayworth for some time, but hadn’t gotten around to it until this morning.

One of my favorite, and perhaps only, book to movie translations that really I really enjoyed was “Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption” by Stephen King. Rita Hayworth was dropped from the movie title but little else was cut. The movie not only stayed close to the source material, but the added content was quality and drove the story further rather than just being filler.

I really liked this photo but had a difficult time dealing with all the shades of green in the grass and brush. Its not a problem of making different shades, there is just so much of the green that it tends to wash out the photo. To avoid it looking too green, I used different shades of brown to distinguish the plants from each other and give the photo more depth.

I had originally intended for the ping pong table to be green but the color didn’t sit right and the darkness of the original image hinted at the fact that it was blue. After finishing the photo and making some adjustments, I used a light warming filter on the whole photo to get tone down some of the greens and blues.

Below is the full size black and white photo along with my full size colorization. Feel free to share this colorization on your social network of choice or leave a comment in the comment section below.

Aw, this was a really good post. Taking a few minutes
and actual effort to make a really good article… but what can I
say… I hesitate a whole lot and never manage to get nearly anything done.
