Colorization of Hugh Hefner And Bunnies in Heathrow, London 1970
This is a black and white photograph of the gentleman himself, Mr.Hugh Hefner and his bunnies arriving in Heathrow, London in 1970. I have been colorizing this one off and on for a while and I finally forced myself to finish it this morning. The union jack dress and the dress of the girl on the far left are really what drew me to this black and white photo.
The reason this one took me so long is pretty obvious, there are tons of details in the dresses and bunny ears and I didn’t want to just slap one color on there. I really spent a great deal of time making sure each dress was different and reflected the 1970’s style. I initially had colored Hugh‘s jet a light maroon, but after some research I found out it was a simple black and white.
When colorizing a black and white photo I like to take a break at least twice when doing something this time consuming, which can be hard to do once you’ve really started colorizing it.Just like music or recording a song or writing a song, when you play it to many times or you work on it too much you lose track of what is quality or good. A good pair of fresh eyes have saved me from making some mistakes and making the color washed out.
Oh and one other thing, is it just me or does the girl under Hugh’s arm look like Rashida Jones?
As always the full size black and white photo and my colorization are below, please feel free to share this post on your social media network of choice. Feel free to leave any comments, criticisms or questions below as well
