Six Year Old Paperboy colorization

“A 6-year-old newsie who tried to “short change” me. Los Angeles, California.

May 1915”

This is the caption listed by the photographer Lewis Wickes Hine who took this photo for the National Child Labor Commission and its report to Congress. AT age six, this kid looks tougher than most adults I know.

What drew me to working with this photo was the depth of field, it almost seems like the paperboy is floating rather than standing. The challenges in this photo came primarily from the blurry background items.

I did the best I could to discern what was going on in the background but it was quite difficult. The restoration aspect of this photo wasnt entirely difficult but a bit time consuming. The only issue I had was with bringing up the lighting without losing the sense of depth.

Below is my full size colorization as well as the original black and white photo.
