Sophia Loren Colorized
Sophia Loren (born Sofia Villani Scicolone) is considered Italy’s most honored and renowned actress. Sophia has starred in over 90 movies since her acting career launched in 1950. Sophia has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, five special Golden Globes, a BAFTA Award, a Laurel Award as well as the Honorary Academy Award in 1991. In 1995, she received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievements, one of many such awards.
At first glance, this black and white photo of Sophia Loren hanging out in a cornfield appeared pretty simple and straightforward to colorize..It wasn’t. The lighting and shadows had to be adjusted pretty heavily before I could begin adding the color. The lighting adjustments give the color more of a “Rich” look to the finished product.
The details in the sweater and the scarf (I think its a scarf, or maybe its called a kerchief?) in Sophia’s hat required a great deal of tedious detail work. Outside of all the detail work, the color scheme were a bit difficult to arrange. The blue sky and the green husks of the corn meant I needed to use some duller colors for the sweater. I was originally going to use a rust color for the main portions of the sweater, but decided on good ol’ purple to really make it “Pop” .
My full size colorization as well as the black and white original are below.
