Weathered Business Man in New York City, 1953.
This photo was taken in New York City, New York in 1953 by street photographer Vivian Maier. This is the fourth photo I have worked on that was taken by the talented Vivian Maier. I wont rehash all the details of Vivian’s remarkable street photography and how it went decades without seeing the light of day, instead I will direct you to previous posts here and here where I discussed the interesting way her work was found.
The way Vivian Maier’s photos showcase the interesting marvels and peculiarities of Urban America in the second half of the twentieth century is seemingly beyond belief. Something about Vivian’s candid street photography seems to capture the human element and emotion from her subjects in a way that I have seen few others do. It’s a good thing that John Maloof purchased and saved Vivian Maier’s collection of negatives or else they may be sitting in a mildew filled storage unit collecting dust and going unseen. It also makes you wonder what other works of art could be out there waiting to be discovered.
